Disclosing Information without Consent

There may be circumstances where information may be shared without a patient's consent:

  • There is a threat of imminent danger to them or others.
  • There is a need to investigate a serious crime.

How do you make a decision?

  • Consider each individual case.
  • Consider both to the law and the particular circumstances of the case.
  • Discuss with a senior colleague or line manager.
