Identifying Human Trafficking
There are no definitive symptoms by which to identify trafficking.
But there are potential 'Red Flags' that may indicate trafficking:
The following 'equation' outlines situations that may indicate trafficking.
[D]For a more comprehensive list of indicators, please check the 'Further Information and Resources' section at the end of this course.
Keep in mind that trafficked persons:
- may have difficulty in articulating their fears or the nature of their health problems
- may not be familiar with the concept of 'trafficking' but instead blame themselves for bad luck or poor judgement
- are in an unfamiliar culture with possibly very little awareness of their legal rights or of the availability of help and support
- might not understand that they are being exploited
