Human Trafficking and Health

Victims or potential victims of human trafficking are entitled to free healthcare.

The health consequences of human trafficking are such that the NHS may be the one public agency to which a victim will turn for assistance.

The provision of healthcare services to victims may therefore present the opportunity to:

  • address their health needs
  • facilitate access to wider support services that can afford them care and protection

Think back to Marisca's story:

Which health issues did she present?
Which of those were related to human trafficking?

  • Pregnant
  • Distressed
  • Very concerned about a possible Sexually Transmitted Infection
  • Mental health issues
